Are you a parent of a child with a disability or a community member interested in gaining a strong understanding of the Illinois special education system? Parent Advocacy Leadership (PAL) is a Free training series designed to help you navigate the special education process in Illinois.

 

 

Requirements:

  •  Willing to attend all 8 sessions,
  • Willing to participate in 4 focus groups,
  • Willing to complete pre and post-survey,

Training will cover:

  • The Individuals with DisabilitiesEducation Act (IDEA)
  •  State law (Part 226)
  • The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Section 504
  • Advocacy
  • Current Special Education Issues

All training and focus groups will be virtual. The PAL training is 8 sessions long. The focus groups will also take place via webinar format. Homework is required and must be completed prior to each session. Participants who complete all 8 sessions will receive a Parent Advocacy Leadership Certificate of Completion.

Each training session is Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm (CST) excluding holiday weekends via zoom webinar.

The PAL webinar dates are Saturdays:

April 10th, April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 15th, May 22nd, June 5th, June 12th.

Focus Group dates are Tuesdays @ 6 pm.

April 20th, May 4th, May 25th.

The Final Focus Group will be on Saturday at June 26th at 10 am.
